If you’re experiencing stress and anxiety, an effective self-care routine is key. No matter the cause of your stress, taking time for yourself to recharge and find balance is essential. And no one knows this better than our own founder, who spent her career in the worlds of corporate finance and marketing before succumbing to burnout and searching for answers. Below, Fleurissent founder Tracey To, shares her self-care tips, including her mindful skincare routine:
What led to Fleurissent? Did you always plan to start a skincare brand?
I never thought of starting a skincare brand in my life. It came to me unexpectedly but when looking back, I think it is my destiny and calling. My story is a tale of being lost, found and reconnected for the birth of Fleurissent.
Three years ago, when I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression, I felt lost and disconnected. I lost skin vitality, beauty, love, hope, and faith. I lost the sense of knowing who I am, what I want to do, and why I exist in this world. In the quest for solace and restoration, I took a trip to the South of France, where I had always wanted to be, amidst the rolling hills and fragrant fields of rare native flowers. There, I regained my peace, calm, love and dreams through connecting with myself and nature and by using flower aromatherapy.
What is your personal self-care routine?
In the morning, I practice my “clear mind ritual,” because I am an early bird, and I feel very clear and focused in the morning. I start the day at 5:30am, by gently washing my face with cold water. Then I put on the face mask and practice 15 minutes of mindfulness. For my mindfulness exercise, I inhale the scent and only focus on the scent and my breath. When the mindfulness is done, I gently wipe off the face mask, put on my face cream and get ready for the day.
My evening ritual is the “calming mind ritual”, and I do the face mask during my bath time or when I practice mindfulness before bedtime. During the mindfulness, my mind stops thinking as I focus only on enjoying the captivating scent. After 10 minutes of mindfulness, the face mask is completely absorbed in the skin, I gently massage with some cold water and clean off the beads with dry towel.
Then I put on the face cream and do another 5 minutes of deep breathing with the facial cream scent. The ritual makes soothes both my mind and skin. And when you are going to bed with a calm mind and well-nourished skin, you will wake up with a clear mind and radiant glow.
What do you like to do in your off-time?
I love being in the nature. Walking in the garden or hike in the forest, watching and smelling flowers always makes me feel refreshed, calm and at peace.
How do you deal with the stress of a startup?
I need to get enough sleep because when you are sleep-deprived, you can’t have a clear thought. I go to bed on time and do mindfulness with Fleurissent skincare. The sensory of texture and scent promote calm and relaxation but also help to stop my thinking. Because when I inhale the beautiful scent, my mind focuses on the scent and I stop thinking of everything else. The products truly saved my life for the last three years and help me keep balance and feel calm.
What advice do you have for women experiencing chronic stress and burnout?
- Make downtime for yourself to rest, calm, reflect and listen to your mind, body and soul to find out what you really want and what makes you happy. Somehow your body knows it in advance and will give you the best advice.
- Find something you love to do or enjoy.
- Prioritize self-care to reconnect with self: Make self-care a routine that includes setting aside time for activities that relax and rejuvenate you, whether it's reading, yoga, meditation, or spending time in nature.
- Mindfulness and Relaxation: Incorporate mindfulness and relaxation techniques into your daily routine. Practices like deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or mindfulness meditation can help reduce stress.

How can you encourage women to take time for themselves and make wellness a priority?

Which Fleurissent product is your personal favorite?
It is hard to choose, it’s like having to pick my children but my favorite is Revitalizing Radiance Rose and Soothing Lavender. I use these two collections alternatively for morning and night to treat dark spots and sensitive skin but also for the mood lifting purposes: the lavender scent is really calming and relaxing to help me while rose are very sweet, promoting the feeling of love and joy. I can use both for a nighttime alternative, depending on my mood and needs. But they both have very beautiful silky texture and captivating scent that your mind and skin will fall in love with.
